Reading at Brighton Poetry Society - Morgan Nichols

I am a freelance writer of non-fiction as well as a fiction writer. Most of my work is published under my name 'Morgan Nichols'. I have a postgraduate degree in psychology and my employment and volunteering background includes counselling, media and social service work experience. My non-fiction work has been published in academic (psychology textbook: 'Psychology and Law') and social research contexts (for the YMCA: designed an HIV/AIDS prevention programme for use in South Africa; wrote a report on youth violence in South Africa), as well as in a ground-breaking new literary/art/lifestyle magazine, ‘Trespass’. One of my personal essays has appeared in natural parenting magazine, 'Juno'.

I co-authored a new section on music culture lifestyles for the award-winning website, ‘My Brighton and Hove’. I have experience in facilitating creative writing workshops and have had a related article featured on 'Helium', as well as published work on diverse subjects on ‘Associated Content.com’. This work is all published under my name 'Morgan Nichols'.

I have performed my poetry regularly around Brighton & Hove over the past four years, and featured on 'Radio Reverb' a number of times. My poetry has appeared in several literary magazines including 'Dream Catcher', 'Obsessed with Pipework', 'London Miscellany', as well as in an anthology, 'New Moon Rising'. I have also self-published two poetry booklets.

My interests are writing, yoga, music, parenting (particularly attachment parenting), holistic lifestyles, and gender issues. I have written two children's books and am currently working on a novel for adults. I recently completed training as a breastfeeding peer supporter and am a new breastfeeding counsellor trainee.

See my blog, following my attempts to balance motherhood with writing and yoga, as well as critical consideration of many of the issues affecting mothers in our socio-economic climate.
